Sarah Bernhardt
When you think of a peony, Sarah Bernhardt is by far the best known and most loved through out the world. We love to grow them too..
The One Everyone Knows
Full-petalled, late-season — Sarah opens slowly into a flower the colour of peach blossom. The bud needs to feel soft before you cut: too tight and she may never open, just right and you've got ten days in the vase. The popularity isn't an accident — once she's open, she does the work.
Origin
We love to grow them too — and we're hardly the first. Monsieur Lemoine bred Sarah Bernhardt in France in 1906 and named the variety after the famous French actress, the most celebrated stage performer of her age. The name carries the same energy as the flower: dramatic, iconic, hard to look past.
